![]() ![]() ![]() What Jennifer Hale has done is to enhance an already well-written story. Because I am a lover of audiobooks, a good narrator can make or break a book. How she did voices for dozens of characters was absolutely incredible ! Whether human, alien or robot, her performance was spot on. I was shocked to discover that this is her first time ever performing an audiobook. He also interviewed the narrator, Jennifer Hale. In some cases I do listen at a faster speed, but because of the meatiness of this book, I wanted the devour as well as absorb the entire story, and I was definitely able to do this.Īt the end of the audiobook, Christopher Paolini discusses his writing process for this book, and this was very intriguing, giving the reader a glimpse of the mind of a writer. and with only a couple of short breaks, I listened to this book straight through, at 1.75 speed. I began the book about midnight, slept, resumed at 6 a.m. However, that proved to be an impossible task. I wanted to enjoy the story, but I also wanted time to ponder over it during the times I stepped away from it. Granted, it is the longest book I have read this year, so I decided beforehand to break it up into several sections. ![]() I must admit that I am very pleased that I was able to get this review copy as an audiobook, because the length as well as the content might have been difficult for me to read in a traditional format such as print. To add to this, the plot was excellent and captivating. I feel that Christopher Paolini did an exceptional job with both. But I do know that for a book of this genre to work, there has to be a good mix of character and world-building. The various voices and simply the way she embodied Kira sucks you in. The reader for this audiobook does an incredible job. I had my concerns about how this would end, but Paolini did not disappoint. The end was so magical and interesting to read that I was surprised by it. His characters all have something you can relate to, even down to the space squids (squidlings? Any splatoon fans?). However, Paolini writes in such a way that you feel welcomed and encouraged to explore the world he created. As humans are fighting creatures known as Jellies and Nightmares, Kira is finding that The Soft Blade has seen this all before, and it did not end well. The Soft Blade is actually an ancient entity of sorts, who is familiar with the war that is brewing in the galaxies. This becomes a Xeno suit, which as the name of “The Soft Blade”. Kira discovers an alien relic, that binds itself to her. It is well worth the time to read, however, and Paolini does an amazing job of making it not feel like a task. This book is almost 900 pages long, and, as I had the audiobook version: 32 hours of listening time. To summarize this book is asking a lot, due to the sheer length of it. In To Sleep in a Sea of Stars, we follow Kira as she pays for the simple mistake of curiosity. To Sleep in a Sea of Stars by Christopher Paolini is a SciFi novel about an alien relic and a galaxy-wide war. ![]()
